Marking over a year since its launch, this report highlights some of the progress Ipieca has made towards implementing the Ipieca-WBCSD SDG Roadmap for the oil and gas sector.

In April 2021, Ipieca and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) published Accelerating action: an SDG Roadmap for the oil and gas sector (Roadmap), which identifies actions Ipieca and the oil and gas sector can take to accelerate the realization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across three systemic themes of climate, nature and people.

This report highlights some of the progress Ipieca has made towards implementing the Roadmap, including:

  • Implementation statistics
  • Traffic light status of all 46 Ipieca impact pathways
  • Examples of how Roadmap actions are embedded in Ipieca's business plan

The SDG Roadmap is the latest milestone in Ipieca's efforts to drive industry action on the SDGs since the development of the SDGs at Rio+20 and their official adoption in 2015.

'As governments, business and civil society come together at Stockholm+50 to accelerate action to deliver the 2030 Agenda, we are using the occasion to raise awareness of the SDG Roadmap project to inspire SDG action and collaboration across the oil and gas sector and beyond' comments Ipieca Deputy Executive Director Sophie Depraz, who will be participating at a Stockholm+50 side event hosted by WBCSD.

'The implementation of the Roadmap is proving to be an integral part of the oil and gas industry's progress towards the SDGs', says Mar Granados Calatrava, Sustainability Strategy and Coordination Manager for Repsol and Ipieca Sustainable Development Goals Task Force ExCom Champion. 'In a time when direct action is needed more than ever, the Roadmap provides a great framework to plan and evaluate contributions to social, environmental and climate goals.'
