The Environmental Partnership launches new programme to reduce flaring
The new performance programme from the Environmental Partnership focuses on flaring reduction in upstream oil and gas operations and will see participating companies advancing best practices and reporting data to 'inform the future actions needed to minimize flaring'. Fourteen Ipieca members are participants in the Partnership.
BHP and PETRONAS
Progressing decarbonisation of the shipping industry with liquified natural gas (LNG)
In separate endeavours, Ipieca members BHP and PETRONAS are advancing LNG bunkering - the process of fuelling ships with LNG - to help reduce emissions and support implementation of the International Maritime Organisation's (IMO) 2020 regulations. PETRONAS has completed its first LNG bunkering operation, whilst BHP has awarded its first LNG bunkering contract to Shell, to begin in 2022.

Leading energy companies announce Transition Principles
Eight leading energy companies, including seven Ipieca members, have jointly developed and agreed to implement six Energy Transition Principles to advance industry contributions to the aims of the Paris Agreement. The principles cover emissions reductions and the role of carbon sinks, collaboration with stakeholders, and transparency around climate-related risks and opportunities and membership of industry associations.
ConocoPhillips
ConocoPhillips extends sea drone project to increase marine ecosystems knowledge
A joint venture agreement between ConocoPhillips and Akvaplan-niva will extend the 'Glider project' by three more years, enabling ocean drones (gliders) to provide valuable insight into the marine environment and potential impacts from offshore activities.

Hess recognised for climate change stewardship in CDP's Global Climate Change Report
For the twelfth consecutive year, Hess has earned Leadership status from CDP for its continued commitment to transparent governance, disclosure and management of climate-related risks and opportunities.
Kosmos Energy
Supporting education in São Tomé and Príncipe
Working in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and ANP-STP (the National Petroleum Agency of São Tomé and Príncipe), Kosmos Energy is building new infrastructure to support education in São Tomé and Príncipe. The project aims to improve access to quality education, reduce the number of students per classroom and prepare students for the future labour market.
