Chevron, Shell and TotalEnergies join satellite-based methane emissions monitoring project
A 12-month research project will assess the feasibility of space-based monitoring of methane emissions from offshore oil and gas platforms, using an infrared sensor. The satellite will observe six offshore facilities around the world for each of the three participating companies, with readings to be checked against onboard measurements.

Eni and the government of Kenya strengthen sustainable bio-fuel cooperation
Eni has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Kenyan Ministry of Petroleum and Mining to develop a circular bio-fuel production value chain. The initiative will contribute to the nation's energy transition, as well as providing sustainable development benefits across agriculture, renewable energy and the local economy.

Repsol to develop renewable hydrogen-powered train
Repsol is partnering with train manufacturer Talgo to support the development of renewable hydrogen-powered trains and promote emission-free rail transport in the Iberian Peninsula. Operating the largest hydrogen plant in Europe, Repsol will use its logistical infrastructure to supply the railway network with renewable hydrogen produced using biogas generated from organic waste.

New partnership to develop future energy skills in New Zealand
A new partnership between Energy Skills Aotearoa and Te PÅ«kenga, the New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology, will help retain, upskill and support the New Zealand workforce to transfer skills across emerging energy industries and technologies, to meet the demands of the energy transition.

WBCSD and UN DESA convene special event alongside 2021 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development
On July 15, WBCSD and UN DESA convened the 'Chief Sustainability Officers for SDGs' event, a virtual dialogue exploring the key role of business in accelerating sustainable development. Ipieca Executive Director Brian Sullivan participated in the final panel, discussing how the Ipieca-WBCSD SDG Roadmap for the oil and gas sector can drive collaborative industry action towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
