SLB’s End-to-End Emissions Solutions business (SEES) has been selected by Eni to carry out comprehensive measurement and reporting of their global methane emissions, aligned with the UN Environment Programme’s Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 reporting standards. Scaling up the ability to access timely, reliable and accurate methane data is key to reducing methane emissions, and will inform Eni’s strategic efforts to reduce them.

Using conventional oil and gas drilling technology and direct lithium extraction, ExxonMobil aims to become a major supplier of lithium that has a lower carbon intensity and physical footprint compared to traditional lithium mining methods.

INPEX has acquired shares in Japan Suiso Energy (JSE), which researches, plans, invests in and operates an international hydrogen supply chain. INPEX will support JSE to demonstrate commercialisation efforts and build an international liquefied hydrogen supply chain.

Oxy and BlackRock form joint venture to develop direct air capture plant
The joint venture will develop the STRATOS facility, designed to capture 500,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, with BlackRock to invest USD 550 million to advance the construction underway in Texas. STRATOS is expected to be commercially operational in 2025.

Petrobras test unveils pioneering advancements in biorefining
With the use of Petrobras technology, the Riograndense refinery, in Rio Grande, has successfully processed 100% renewable feedstock - soybean oil. The refinery is now prepared to initiate the production of petrochemical feedstocks and renewable fuels.
TotalEnergies + Aramco
Joint venture successfully converts used cooking oil into ISCC+ certified sustainable aviation fuel
SATORP, jointly owned by Aramco and TotalEnergies, has successfully converted used cooking oil through coprocessing into International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC+) certified sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The SAF produced reduces CO2 emissions by at least 80% on average over the entire life cycle, compared with the fossil-fuel equivalent.

Research from the international think tank shows that carbon capture and storage (CCS) has seen another year of expansive growth, with 198 new facilities added to the project pipeline this past year - a 102% increase from 2022.
