  • Towards gender-sensitive implementation of extractive industries projects
Calendar24 September 2019

In this webinar co-hosted by ICMM and Ipieca, presenters from the Danish Institute for Human Rights, Total, Rio Tinto and Base Toliara will share experiences and suggestions for gender-responsive due diligence in extractive industries projects.

The Danish Institute for Human Rights will introduce its latest briefing, which highlights key challenges, suggestions and resources for enhancing gender-responsiveness across six select due diligence dimensions: community relations, land acquisition and resettlement, security, local content, grievance resolution and strategic social investment. The briefing links to existing commitments to gender equality, as well as the Gender Guidance developed by the United Nations Working Group on Business and Human Rights.

Topics covered during the webinar will include:

  • An introduction to gender-responsive due diligence in extractive industries projects: Nora Götzmann, Senior Advisor, Danish Institute for Human Rights;
  • addressing gender-based violence in indigenous communities in Bolivia: Cynthia Trigo Paz, Human Rights Senior Advisor, Total;
  • gender-sensitive security and human rights training: Rio Tinto; and
  • training a ready workforce in Madagascar: Amanda Tagliaferri, Manager Human Resources, Base Toliara.

To conclude the webinar, presenters will share their key suggestions for how to get started with strengthening engagement with women and gender-responsive due diligence.
