A natural filter for water – the Nimr reed beds

August 2016

Since 2011, a third of produced water from the Nimr oil feed in Oman has been treated in a purposely built reed bed facility. This treated water is then used for drilling new wells, reducing the volume of water pumped directly from aquifers. Since the start of this project, Nimr have been able to shut down five of the twelve high pressure deep injection pumps, which were previously used to dispose of water.
